We traveled today to a Whoopie Pie Festival, and if you have a taste for this dessert, you would be in sugar-induced coma heaven if you came. There were over 1,000 whoopie pies laid out to sample and buy. Traditionally the whoopie pie is made with chocolate and a vanilla cream filling, like the above picture, and they definitely were represented, but there were also many other different varieties.
When you walk into the festival you pay the entrance fee, and they also give you a few wooden tokens. You use these tokens to try samples of the different whoopie pies. If you find one that you really like they are also available to purchase.
Some different varieties we saw: Chocolate and peanut butter, Oatmeal and maple, pumpkin and cream cheese, but my absolute favorite was the strawberry shortcake whoopie pie. It was to die for! I would of gone for another round, but word traveled pretty quickly and soon the line was 50 people deep.
Psst... for my Maine readers the strawberry whoopie pie was from Governor's Restaurant. :)
Besides having every imaginable flavor of Whoopie Pie available, they also had lots of events for the kids: bouncehouses, balloon animals, games music, and more.
Here are some of the highlights for us:
Giant whoopie pie man. Jack enjoyed giving him high-fives and had to point him out to us every time we were within 20 foot range. There was also a giant chocolate chip cookie running around the festival.

This I thought was quite genius; when eating whoopie pies you HAVE to have milk. And what should be situated right next to the whoopie pies? Yup, coolers with your choice of chocolate or white milk at no charge!
It's not a good whoopie pie unless you get it all over your face.
Dancing with the music
All whoopied out.
