Sunday took us back into Dublin. As many of you who read the blog know our family (especially Jack) love the band Mumford and Sons. Well as luck would have it they were playing at a festival in Phoenix Park while we were in Ireland.
Unfortunately I left my camera in my car because I was unsure what the protocol was for bring cameras in. I found out I could bring my camera but it wouldn't of done much because of my 5'2 frame it would of been just of the backs of people's heads.
There were 5 acts total and we were pretty close to the stage for the first 3, but went towards the back as the crowd got tighter and more rambunctious as the evening progress. There were 40,000 people there and I think Bryan and I may have been the only sober ones there!!
The line up went like this:
1. Ham Sandwich (although I keep calling them Ham and Cheese)
They were folky, but I enjoyed them a lot. They were a local band right out of Dublin
2. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
They were the only band besides Mumford and Sons that I had heard of, however they were my least favorite. They were very unprofessional and even made some racist comment about Ireland being the only white country left (not cool dude). They were all over the place and were definitely not all there if you know what I mean.
3. The Vaccines
Another U.K. band hailing from London. They have won or been nominated for many new music awards.
4. Ben Howard
I had never heard of this guy, but both Bryan and I were in the minority. People were going crazy over him, this is also when we started to get squished and moved toward the back. I can see the appeal of him, even though I didn't know any of his music, I enjoyed the songs that he played. I linked the song that seemed to be the most popular with the crowd.
5. Mumford and Sons
Wow.
They were absolutely incredible. I couldn't of course help think about Jack and how would of loved this. Minus the drunk people, crowds and smoke. They played all the favorites the only one they didn't play that I was a little disappointed about was Sigh No More, but all was forgiven when they played the last song of the night....
Galway Girl!
As a mentioned in a previous post I love this song and apparently so does the rest of Ireland, because the crowd went crazy. Random strangers were grabbing our hands and we all danced and sang together under the starlight.
