FORT KNOX
Construction for the fort began in 1844 and ended in 1869 though the fort was never finished. According to the Fort Know website, "Maine was repeatedly involved in northeast border disputes with British Canada, and the area between Castine and the rich lumber city of Bangor was invaded and occupied by the British during the American Revolution and the War of 1812. Despite the Webster-Ashburton Treaty of 1842, Fort Knox was established in 1844 to protect the Penobscot River valley against a possible future British naval incursion."
In short, it's a creepy historic fort with a labyrinth of rooms and tunnels. I was getting jumpy in broad daylight. It probably didn't help that Bryan and I recently watched the Ghost Hunter episode where a team of paranormal experts came to Fort Knox in search of paranormal activity. Here is a link to the video. BEWARE if you are easily sppoked you may want to skip this...

One of many cannons
So this is the very creepy long alley that goes around the entire fort
Looks a bit more friendly with the flash from my camera on
View of the harbor
The dungeon! Also very creepy
Also at the park is the Penobscot Narrows Observatory. This is a 43 stories high structure and at the top you have 360 degree view of the river. It's absolutely breath-taking and has zero creepiness!
View of the observatory from the ground
One of the many views from above
Jack loved the compass rose on the floor. Note the fact that he pointed out the flower in the center of the compass.
Note if any one is questioning my husband's choice of facial hair it is because he is entered into a mustache contest at work. One more week!!
