One Month!

Whew!  We survived the first month.  We are past the newborn stage which is my least favorite stage in a child's development.  Don't get me wrong I love my children dearly, but that first month is a brutal one.  Newborns are just these little blobs of cuteness that sleep for most of the day (but never at night!) and in between that slumber you feed and change their diapers.  I read some where that in that first month you change over 200 diapers!

However, this time around I found it a little easier.  I have a couple of theories on why.

One: I knew what to expect.  I knew going into this the second time around that breastfeeding was going to be hard, REALLY hard.  In that it is all consuming and painful.  I remember with Jack feeling utterly exhausted and crying to my mom saying I feel like a milk machine.  And you are.  a newborn's tummy is so tiny that they nurse constantly and since the moms are the only ones equipped with the correct goods to nourish these little beings it can be stressful at times.

Two: Before Jack was born I was use to sleeping a good 8 hours EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT. and if I was unable to get my eight hours of sleep I would make it up with a nice nap.  Then suddenly I have this newborn who was awake every 1 to 2 hours every night and my sleep cycle was so out of whack that I felt like the walking dead.  With Scarlett I don't feel that utter exhaustion.  Yes I'm more tired than I was,but it isn't as severe and I think the reason is my body is now use to short bursts of sleep, so there wasn't such a drastic adjustment in my sleep.

Did great on her first bath!  Not a peep from her until we took her out.

We tried feeding from a bottle and she took it like a champ.  Nothing seems to phase this little gal!

Jack still adores his baby sister.  Look at that smile!

And at five weeks she blessed us with smiles.  Even when she is awake at 2 o'clock in the morning those smiles will melt your heart.
