Friday afternoon, I had picked him up up from day care, and we were chatty away as we headed for home. Then Jack blurts out,
"What is the top of a jellyfish called?"
Me: I'm not sure bub maybe we can look it up when we get home.
Jack: What kind of fish if Dory? (Jack's favorite movie at the moment is Finding Nemo)
Me: Um, I used to know, but I can't remember the name...
Jack: Why can't jellyfish hurt Marlin? (a clownfish)
Me: I think it has something do with the type of skin they have, but I'm not sure Jack.
By the end of this line of questioning I was feeling pretty stupid, and thinking that my one year as a Marine Bio major did not help prepare me at all for questions by my 3 year old.
In case you were wondering the answers to Jack's questions here they arein order.
1. Top of a jellyfish is called the umbrella.
2. Dory is a blue tang
3. Why don't jellyfish sting clownfish?
Clownfish are covered in a slimy mucus that protect themselves from the stings of jellyfish and sea anemones.
And in baby news: this week marks the halfway point. Only 20 more weeks to go!
Mom, I promise pictures soon!
