I think cinema, movies, and magic have always been closely associated. The very earliest people who made film were magicians. ~ Francis Ford Coppola
Yesterday,we as a family experienced some of that magic, when we took our three year old to his first movie.
For most of us (or at least our parents) remember the first movie seen in theaters. Mine was Disney's 101 Dalmatians while Bryan's was Return of the Jedi... I didn't believe him until he called his mom to confirm it. :)
Last week Bryan and I saw the trailer for Planes.
Cars is one of Jack's favorite movies. His 3rd birthday theme was Cars, he has the toys, bedspread, so it's safe to say he is a fan. We discussed it together and thought that perhaps Jack was ready for his first movie.
First, we took him out for an early dinner.
We then hit the theater, and of course you can't watch a movie without a bag of popcorn. In Jack's case the bag (a small) was half the size of him.
Waiting for the movie to start.
I think he liked the popcorn.
Now, for those who know Jack well, you know that he likes to talk-A LOT. Before entering the theater we spoke to Jack about how he needs to be quiet in the movie theater, and I wasn't sure how long he would last. He loves to ask questions, which we definitely encourage, but we told him he needed to either whisper the question to us (we practiced our 1 inch voice in the car) or wait to ask his questions after we leave.
However, once the movie started this is what we saw:
Not. A. Peep.
I even ask him few times if he had any questions, and he would whisper back, "No." and continue to watch. After an hour in he grew a little antsy, so we took a little walk to use the bathroom and stretch our legs.
As we were heading back into the theater door, Jack blocks me from opening the doors and says, "Mommy, wait! Wait, Mommy! I have a question!"
He really took our conversation to heart. :)
The last half hour of the movie, I could tell Jack was ready to go, because every 10 minutes or so he would ask if the movie was done. But he was a trooper and stayed until the end.
On our way to the car, I ask him what his favorite part was, and he said that he liked the orange plane (Dusty) and he thought the green truck was silly (Chug).
I look forward to the next movie date with my two favorite guys.
